To work as a Registered Nurse (RN) in Australia, you must be registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA), which operates under the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

📋 Requirements:

Assessment through the Internationally Qualified Nurses and Midwives (IQNM) pathway
A recognized nursing qualification comparable to Australian standards
English language proficiency:
- IELTS Academic: Minimum 6.5 in writing, 7.0 in all other band
- OET: Minimum C+ in writing, B in all other band
- PTE Academic, TOEFL iBT, Cambridge etc. are also accepted
Note:
Combination of tests over maximum of two test sittings in a 12-month period is accepted
English requirement may be waived if qualifications were completed in specific English-speaking countries.
Completion of a minimum of 450 hours of practice within the past five years
Completion of an Orientation Program and possibly the MCQ exam and OSCE (depending on outcome of self-check)
Criminal history check and evidence of good standing
Meet the NMBA’s registration standards, including professional indemnity insurance.

Note:

As of March 2020, the AHPRA has implemented a new assessment model for IQNMs which includes a Self-check, Orientation, and assessment stages depending on the stream (Stream A or B).
