If you're planning to work as a Registered Nurse (RN) in New Zealand, you must be registered with the
Nursing Council of New Zealand (NCNZ).
📋 Requirements:
- Documents to be verified by TruMerit (CGFNS)
- A recognized nursing qualification (Bachelor of Nursing, Post Bsc Nursing or equivalent).
- English language proficiency:
- IELTS Academic: Minimum 6.5 in writing, 7.0 in all other band
- OET: Minimum C+ in writing, B in all other band
Note:
English language tests over more than one sitting are acceptable.
PTE is not accepted.
English test requirements may be waived for nurses registered in countries such as the UK, Ireland, the US, or Canada.
- Currently be registered overseas as a nurse with a registration authority
- 1800 hours of post-registration experience in last 10 years
- Fitness to practice - International Criminal History Check
- Theoretical and clinical exam process. (IQN and OSCE exam)
Note:
Internationally qualified nurses who applied to NCNZ before December 4, 2023, will follow existing CAP requirements, which will run alongside a new exam process until CAP is phased out from July 2025.
